  1. What is meant by the phrase “art of editing?
    1. The art of editing is just a way to create transitions from one moment to the next to be able to tell a story. These transitions can, "be the foundation of a film's pace, its atmosphere, and it can even be the enriching ingredient to strengthen all the film's themes." The editing in a movie can come in multiple different styles which, depending on the scene, would give the feeling that the editors want the audience to feel.
  2. How does editing contribute to storytelling?
    1. Editing contributes to storytelling by being the transition and placement of cuts in a certain order to create smooth motion. In the video, it states that "editing became a lot like music, a misplaced phrase, an out-of-sequence shot, and the entire symphony fall apart." Meaning that if an edit does not make sense in the film, the meaning of the film and the feeling that the editor wants the audience to feel would fall apart.
  3. How does an editor create meaning?
    1. The editor creates meaning by knowing when to start a cut, how long it will be, and when it will end. The editor, to create a message has to find what exact moment when the message will be portrayed, and "how long do you think it will take to convey that message," as stated in the video.
  4. Can meaning be manipulated?
    1. Meaning can be manipulated, and it has always been the purpose of editing, editing is supposed to manipulate the meaning of the film. As Michael Kahn stated, "Editing is manipulation. We're Manipulating reality, as the audience sees it because you want the audience to respond in a certain way."
  5. What are some different types of editing styles?
    1. Some different types of editing styles are closed, tight, and restricted to create an intensifying scene. Or the transition of having one scene take place in a certain area, and cut to a different area while continuing the flow of the film within a single movement.
