"The Crossing" Discussion Post

The filming used a lot of cinematic languages to give the viewer a feel of suspense and fear while watching it. During the opening cut of the film, there is a widescreen view of a woman entering a subway and calling someone. The scene then cuts to a close side-view of the woman, where we see her apologizing to someone, which would give the viewer suspense as to why she is apologizing and heading towards the subway. Then there is the scene where the camera shifts to different views of the woman walking in the subway hallway, possibly causing even more suspense in the viewer. As she walks in the hallway, she passes a creepy looking image on the wall. Then we see a close-up view of a man kicking his legs on the ground. Then we see a wide-view of the woman looking at his legs suddenly seem to "drop dead" and get dragged away behind a corner. This scene might cause the viewer to feel fear of the sudden mysterious movement of the man. Then comes the part that adds to that sudden sense of fear, the widescreen view focusing on a moving figure on the wall. Then to emphasize the feeling of fear, the camera makes a close-up view of the women's horrified face. Then there is the view of her shoes as she runs away from the creepy figure. Then there is another cut but a close-up view of the floor, but then we see something dripping on the floor. We see a widescreen view of the woman looking up at the ceiling, and suddenly we see a bloody hand pop-out and scare the woman and the viewers. We see a close-up view of her face as she starts calling someone for help. Then we see the front of her face and the creature hovering behind her covered in blood, which gets the viewers ready to scream. The creator made the viewers feel suspense, which led to fear throughout the film by emphasizing the emotions of the main character.
